What are next generation designers thinking? Find out at the opening of the AIA|LA’s 2×8: Interlaced exhibition. The show features work by exemplary architectural students from across California, brought together to participate in the AIA|LA’s 2×8 program.

An annual event, 2×8 includes three components; It’s an exhibition, competition and a scholarship program all in one. The opening reception at Helms Bakery Walk will exhibit entries to the 2×8 student design competition which address the theme of Interlaced.

The reception will feature the announcement of this year’s winners who will receive financial scholarships. A lot of layers in one show, but most importantly:  2×8 is an opportunity for students to have work seen in the public forum, be introduced to practicing architects and AIA members, and win scholarship moneys.

Participating schools for 2018 include: Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Long Beach, LAIAD, Otis College of Art and Design, UCLA, Woodbury University – Burbank, California College of the Arts.

This year’s opening party will also showcase renderings of second student design competition this one for: the AIA|LA’s new Mobile Center for Architecture and Design. Currently in its plenary stage, “the Mobile Center is a means for the profession, as a whole, to engage with residents throughout the region. It adheres to the authentic composition of its own city—a multi-faceted, multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-economy metropolis—to better serve inhabitants,” notes AIA|LA President Tania Van Herle, AIA.

As part of the ceremony announcing 2×8 winners, the AIA|LA will also recognize the winner of the design competition for the Center, student Stephanie Green of Woodbury University.
