07.14.20 David Swartz, FAIA, IIDA, and Senior Partner at HLW, has been appointed to serve on the University of Southern California Alumni Association Board of Governors as a representative for the USC School of Architecture.

07.01.20 AIALA sends congratulations and best wishes to Michael Gehring, FAIA, who is retiring after twenty-six years as Partner/CEO of Kaplan Gehring McCarroll (KGM), an international leader in the architectural lighting design industry. Mike was longtime member of AIA|LA Fellows Committee and sponsor and mentor to many successful Fellowship nominees.

06.29.20 Barbara Bouza, FAIA, has been named President, Walt Disney Imagineering, Business Operations Design & Delivery. Barbara is the current Past President of AIA|LA and most recently served as Co-Managing Director, Principal of Gensler Los Angeles. We are delighted to congratulate her on her new position.

06.15.20 Mandi Roberts, AIA, has joined ORA as a Principal. Mandi is the former AIA|LA Design Awards Committee Chair and is currently the local co-chair for the AIA National Committee on Design 2022 Los Angeles Design conference.

05.21.20 The Six, Los Angeles, designed by Brooks + Scarpa has been named by American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) as a recipient for its highest honor, the COTE Top Ten Awards.

05.18.20  Duvivier Architects/Isabelle Duvivier, FAIA LEED have been named a 2020 Sustainable Quality Award Winner (Grand Prize Level). The recognition is a joint effort of the City of Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, and Sustainable Works.

05.04.20  Angela Brooks, FAIA, pens “In Pursuit of an Architecture for Everyone,” a column in the May 2020 issue of ARCHITECT magazine.

04. 27.20  Annie Chu, FAIA, a Founding Principal of Chu Gooding Architects, is featured in ARCHITECT magazine. In this piece, Annie discusses color, the importance of interior architecture “we spend more than 90% of our day indoors,” and how the curriculum architecture schools teach should be expanded. 02.19.20  More news involving AIA|LA Women in Architecture Committee leadership who are busy “increasing the number of female architects.” 2020 AIA|LA WiA Co-Chair Chiara Bonsignori, Assoc. AIA – Associate, Corgan, and Vice Chair Jennifer Noel Wong, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP BD+C – Designer, CO Architects have both passed their CSE exams and are officially architects.

02.05.20  Ashley Richardson, AIA has been elevated to Principal at EYRC.  Ashley is the former AIA|LA Design Awards Committee Chair and is currently the Co-Vice Chair of the Women in Architecture Committee. In addition to her firm management responsibilities, Ashley is currently EYRC’s senior project manager working closely with design build team members Kitchell, HKS and SWA on the 2,000 bed Future College Living and Learning Neighborhood at UC San Diego.

01.30.20 HED Joins JUST
National architecture and engineering firm HED is proud to announce that it has joined JUST, a program of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). JUST serves as a tool to help organizations measure their progress on a range of indicators about social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability. The firm is embracing this transparency tool as a way to communicate its intentions and commitments in these realms with the firm’s 470-person team, its clients, its communities, and its industry peers.
