The Los Angeles Lakers have a new base of operations at the brand-new UCLA Health Training Center. It’s a big shift from their previous space marking a new era for the Lakers. The $80 million facility rethinks conventional programming for training facilities, traditionally based on a purely functional layout, and establishes a philosophy of integration between basketball operations and business operations. The architecture contributes to the Lakers’ new culture, inspiring collaboration and teamwork.

Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, and Rottet Studio are known for spaces, whether for work or home, that transcend their formal use and become places where people ponder, experience, and are inspired. Authentic Design: Lauren Rottet and Rottet Studio was written by Lauren Rottet, with a foreword by former architecture critic for The New Yorker, Paul Goldberger. Rottet Studio was the original architect for this Paul Hastings office (2002) and although the design stood the test of time, modernization was required. The objective was simple: challenge the norms, collaborate, communicate, innovate.

Awesomeness is a global media company with its headquarters at Pen Factory, a former manufacturing facility in Santa Monica, California. SOM transformed the building into a multi-tenant creative office, and also designed the interiors. Awesomeness occupies the entire east building of the Pen Factory site, comprising 78,000 square feet on two levels, and accommodating more than 500 employees.
