Curious what the inside of Warner Music Group’s new Los Angeles headquarters looks like?

Learning Units: 1.5 LU/HSW

Join  D. “Rocky” Rockefeller, AIA, Founder and Senior Partner of Rockefeller Kempel Architects, on a private tour of this highly-anticipated, recently completed project. Only twenty-five spaces are available for this exclusive tour.
Home to seven of its recording groups (Warner Records, Warner/Chappell Music, Atlantic Records, ADA, WEA, Elektra and Rhino) and almost 600 employees, Warner Music converted the historic former Ford Motor Company factory to a one-of-a-kind site with innovative co-working spaces, 150-seat live performance venue, and custom installations reflective of each recording group and so much more!

Rockefeller Kempel Architects led the complete historic restoration and modernization of the former Ford Motor Company factory buildings and site and played a vital role as Architect of Record for the conversion to what you will see today. In addition, the former Ford Motor Company factory and site achieved LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2018 through creative architectural solutions and historical restorations put forth by Rockefeller Kempel Architects and executed by an amazing project team.

This tour offers an opportunity for intimate Q&A, never-before-seen elements of the historic preservation, and the chance to take-in the inside one of the world’s largest recording label’s headquarters.

Interiors: Rockwell Group
General Contractor: Howard Building Corp
Structural Engineer: Nabih Youssef
Landscape Architecture: Duane Border Design
Lighting Designer: Bold

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe the complete historic restoration and modernization of the former Ford Motor Company factory buildings and site (designed in 1914 by Parkinson and Bergstrom and recently re-imagined by Rockwell Group and Rockefeller Kempel Architects) into a headquarters for Warner Music Group.
  • Participants will explore how the former Ford Motor Company factory and site achieved LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2018, through creative architectural solutions and historical restorations put forth by the architects and executed by the project team, that met the original design intent, while complying with local codes and regulations.
  • Participants will discuss how the restoration architect acted as the conduit between the designer and the General Contractor, while providing solutions or clarifications when issues arose, and leading the team during the construction phase of the project to ensure design integrity was carried out in every detail possible. The design team paid careful attention to preserve the architectural character and to find creative design solutions to highlight the beautiful and unique historic elements of the building.
  • Participants will be able to explain how the project team were able to renovate a 240,000-square-foot property, composed of a derelict five-story tower plus a two-story annex, and program a space to combine seven businesses, which were formerly split up in three locations scattered around L.A., under one roof. The space also includes social, transformable spaces, such as the office’s center stage, a hybrid lounge space with an actual bandshell where musical performances take place.
