Rebuilding Our Community Businesses

Tuesday, June 23, 2020–Last week, the AIA|Los Angeles invited members to give a second life to the plywood used to board-up businesses throughout the region. Habitat for Humanity San Gabriel Valley will collect the material from properties and use these donations in their mission to create housing for working families in need. But how do we support businesses, business owners, and employees operating in properties that may have been terribly damaged in early June and are in need and deserving of our individual and collective assistance.

The Mayor of Los Angeles is setting up a formal program to connect design professionals who can volunteer their services for impacted businesses; the AIA|LA is collecting the names of members who are interested so that we may notify relevant members once the City’s program is in place. But people who have been affected may require assistance now. We invite our colleagues to be aware of such needs and to act individually in support of businesses in communities throughout the city and county. If you are able to provide design or rebuilding services to impacted people and businesses, we urge you to contact us today.
