Slay that Dragon!: What Architects Do, and How to Hire Them

May 22, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

Free

Practicing Architect and former professor William Hogan will demystify what architects actually do, with playful analogies, case studies, and beautiful imagery.

He will illustrate how, much like doctors and lawyers, Architects reduce pain (slay dragons), and that it’s not just about design, function, or aesthetics. Like a white knight slaying dragons, Architects defend their clients and projects from the litany of forces that derail projects and dreams.

As part of his presentation, William will illuminate when, how, and why to hire an architect, along with what to expect should you ever choose to work with one.

Snacks and Refreshments provided, including beer and wine.  Q&A to follow.
This event is part of the 2×8:Exchange presented by Shimahara illustrations and generously hosted by the Helms Bakery.

William Hogan is a licensed Architect who graduated cum laude from California State Polytechnic University Pomona’s school of architecture. He has over 30 years of professional experience in the architecture field, including as an architect and CAD manager at Disney Imagineering, and 12 years of professorship. These days he has his own practice, with a focus on residential and light commercial building design, renovation, and restoration. His drive to teach led him to create a blog with topics such as:

Working with an Architect

Why the do it yourself approach is stupid

Contractual relationship between parties to a construction contract

The risks of building without a permit
