LADBS Presents the 2019 California Building Code

Beginning on January 1, 2020, LADBS is required by State law to enforce the 2019 Edition of California Building Standards Codes (also known as Title 24 of the California Codes of Regulations).

Please join us for an informative presentation, which will help keep you updated on the latest code changes and how they may impact the design and performance of your projects.   The presentation will feature the most significant changes to the California Building Codes and related LA City amendments, which will include the building, residential, energy, electrical, mechanical and plumbing codes.

According to LADBS, “the majority of the amendments were created in-house based on our experience with the development industry over the previous code cycle.  LADBS compares policies and interpretations with surrounding jurisdictions and adjusts the code accordingly.  The major changes are typically presented to various industry groups before being incorporated into the code.  Other code changes are a result of instructions from our local legislative body based on the perceived needs of the City/constituents.
The 2019 California Building Standards Code becomes effective on January 1, 2020.  However, the local amendments are still working their way through the code adoption process and will be released shortly.

This presentation on January 8th will serve as a forum to learn about the updated building code, as well as, an opportunity to interact with LADBS leadership.

Every three years, the State adopts new codes (known collectively as the California Building Standards Code) to establish uniform standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings, electrical systems, plumbing systems, mechanical systems, and fire and life safety systems. Sections 17922, 17958 and 18941.5 of the California Health and Safety Code require that the latest edition of the California Building Standards Code apply to local construction 180 days after publication.

The California Building Standards Code consists of the following 12 parts:

Part 1 California Administrative Code (CAC)
Part 2 California Building Code (CBC)
Part 2.5 California Residential Code (CRC)
Part 3 California Electrical Code (CEC1)
Part 4 California Mechanical Code (CMC)
Part 5 California Plumbing Code (CPC)
Part 6 California Energy Code (CEC2)
Part 7 (Currently Vacant)
Part 8 California Historical Building Code (CHBC)
Part 9 California Fire Code (CFC)
Part 10 California Existing Building Code (CEBC)
Part 11 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen)
Part 12 California Reference Standards Code
