This 1169 SF infill dwelling unit (IDU) capitalizes on the city’s accessory dwelling unit (ADU) incentive for existing, small multi-family parcel owners to help alleviate LA’s affordable rental housing shortage. In this case, the project not only provides much-needed rooms but does so while making more room in the city.
A lithe and agile insertion into an existing congregate dwelling environment, the building and its contextually specific site planning also illustrate potential universal design and massing approaches to 2022 state law (SB-9) permitting upzoning on single-family lots to create a mix of duplexes and ADUs.
