Part of the state’s Homekey Initiative, The Alvarado rapidly brings 43 interim homes online for families experiencing homelessness. It is a new incarnation of a previously rundown, crime-plagued hotel.
The design team not only reimagined the space into a canvas acting as a beacon of hope for its residents and the larger community; but also implemented a sustainable strategy, reusing the structure, adding PV panels and electric water heaters to give the project a minimal carbon footprint.
