Maximizing Capacity/Minimizing Disruption: Cedars-Sinai Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion Outpatient Expansion

2 LU | HSWs

Clinical innovation, patient preferences, and reimbursement trends are tilting the balance in favor of outpatient settings for hospital services. Recognizing this trend, Cedars-Sinai has invested in two major tenant improvement projects within their recently completed Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion (AHSP). The AHSP was completed in 2012 as a hub for specialty clinics, outpatient surgery, and research labs, leaving two floors as shell space for future expansion. In 2015, Cedars-Sinai identified outpatient surgery and cancer care as the highest and best use of this location.

Cedars-Sinai engaged two different healthcare architecture firms (CO Architects and HGA), one engineering firm (ARUP) and one contractor (Hathaway Dinwiddie) – to work in a collaborative manner leading to creative and effective solutions. These two projects impacted six of the nine floors in the building, requiring careful sequencing in order to guarantee patient care is not impacted. Both projects will be complete in 2019.
