Jimmy Kim – General Manager, Department of Recreation & Parks, City of Los Angeles
Jimmy Kim is the dedicated General Manager of the Department of Recreation and Parks for the City of Los Angeles and an accomplished leader within the Department. Before rising to his current position, he served as the Assistant General Manager, where he skillfully oversaw the Recreation Services branch, and held the position of Superintendent of Citywide Aquatics and Emergency Management. Notably, he served as the Department’s Homeless Strategy Coordinator and Resilience Officer, showcasing his versatility in addressing complex challenges facing urban environments.
As General Manager, Jimmy oversees the department’s extensive portfolio, which includes over 16,000 acres of parkland and 444 park sites strategically distributed from the valley to the sea. His visionary approach has not only preserved these valuable green spaces but has also facilitated the delivery of a wide array of recreational, social, and cultural programs that cater to the unique needs of residents in every Los Angeles neighborhood.
With an illustrious career spanning nearly 27 years within the department, Jimmy’s leadership is characterized by a deep understanding of community needs, a passion for preserving open spaces, and a commitment to fostering inclusive recreational opportunities for residents of diverse communities. His extensive experience and dedication make him a key figure in shaping the vibrant and thriving recreational landscape of Los Angeles.
