City Hall East (formerly The Santa Monica City Services Building) is a globally inspiring facility that reflects the community’s commitment to sustainability and sets an example for the future of all built environments. The building achieved Living Building Challenge certification as one of the most sustainable public buildings in the country. This is the first building in California to be granted the right to convert rain-to-potable water on site, and the first in the United States to use more than a dozen composting toilets, and is the first municipal building of its size and density in the world to meet these goals.
