Paul Coleman, AIA, DBIA, NCARB, LEED-AP – Principal & Chief Operating Officer, AC Martin
Paul Coleman has over 20 years of experience in the field of architecture, working on projects in various market sectors including, commercial, educational, collegiate, institutional, religious, retail and residential architecture. His client list is extensive and diverse – major universities, government agencies, religious institutions and global companies – including the University of Southern California (USC), Chapman University, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pepperdine University, Los Angeles World Airports, the Orange and Los Angeles Catholic Diocese, St. Jude Hospital and Prolacta Bioscience.
Sharing a professional history with AC Martin of over 9 years, Paul returned to lead the AC Martin Special Services Group (SSG) in 2011 after leading his own practice for several years. Having grown SSG considerably in past few years, he is now the firm’s Chief Operating Officer.
Paul received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, and is a registered Architect in California and a LEED Accredited Professional. Paul has been a vital local community leader in his own local city by participating on the Alhambra Design Review Board (2005 to 2008) and the Environmental Committee since (2010-2012). He is also a Board Member of the University of Southern California Architectural Guild and is the Chair of their Mentoring Program.
Jessica L. Orlando, AIA, NCARB – Architectural Design Manager & Strategist, AECOM
Jessica brings together the threads of design process; in her current role as Design Manager & Strategist, she works across disciplines and traditional roles to deliver highly integrated solutions that are both technically feasible and also anchored in the needs and experiences of the people she serves. She draws on her past experiences as Project Manager, Project Architect, Planner and BIM Manager to bring a cohesive workflow and management style to every project she works on. Her focus on Higher Education is inherently rooted in client relationships and engagement, and she understands the critical nature of building consensus across complex user and stakeholder groups.
Though Jessica currently specializes in Higher Education project types, she has worked across typologies from healthcare to research laboratories, corporate commercial to high-rise, mixed-use, as well as civic and hospitality. She received her Master of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology after receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Stan Klemanowicz, AIA – Principal, Klemanowicz & Associates
Stan is principal of a specialized consulting practice focused on providing constructability and peer review services for architects, owners, construction managers, agencies, and attorneys. With over forty years professional hands-on construction, design, and document experience he has provided detailed construction document reviews for over $4 billion of projects. Reviews include constructability, zoning, building code, value-engineering, claims analysis, and forensic evaluation.
His experience also includes energy savings evaluation, where as manager responsible for technical review and program development for a California statewide energy savings program, he reviewed over 100 projects and grew program participation by 300%. His firm also provides Energy Star certification, construction, program, project management, and architectural services.
As an architect, he has managed significant iconic projects nationally and worldwide. He has been department, project, and technical leader for several well-known architectural firms in California, Texas, and New York.
A graduate of The City University of New York, Stan is currently licensed to practice architecture in California, Arizona, and Florida.
In addition to the American Institute of Architects, he is an associate member of the American Bar Association, and is a LEED AP.
He is married with one child and two grandchildren.
Mehrdad Farivar Esq., FAIA
Mehrdad Farivar Esq., FAIA is an architect and a practicing attorney. Licensed in California and the UK as an architect, he is a fellow of the AIA, and a former member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (“RIBA”). Trained as an architect at the Milan Polytechnic, in Milan, Italy, and at the universities of Manchester and London in the UK, he attended Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles at night, while practicing architecture during the day and has been a member of the California Bar since 1992.
An experienced and seasoned architect, Mehrdad is well versed in the design and construction of institutional, commercial and residential projects, including hospitals and medical office buildings, university buildings, office buildings, retail stores, single and multi-family housing, as well as large civic urban design projects. He worked with Jaquelin T. Robertson, FAIA, on a master plan for a major city center in Iran, and with John Weeks, RIBA, on the planning and design of major hospitals and health facilities in the UK and in Europe. He had his own architecture firm in Santa Monica, California, from 1982 until approximately 1994. Projects he has designed or contributed to have been built in California, the UK, Belgium and Iran.
As a lawyer, Mehrdad advises his clients on contract formation and negotiation, business and risk management issues including international contracts; copyright; design-build contracts; construction and related claims; mechanics liens and design professionals liens; land use and zoning matters and ownership transitions; and in the litigation, arbitration and mediation of disputes involving design, construction, real estate, land use and related matters. After practicing with the law firm of Long & Levit LLP in San Francisco and Los Angeles for 5 years, he joined Morris Polich & Purdy LLP (“MPP”), where he was an equity partner for approximately 15 years, before that firm merged with Clark Hill LLP, where he is now a member. Mehrdad has represented large and small architecture, engineering and other design firms in contract negotiations and in litigation and arbitration since 1992. He has deep expertise in legal issues encountered by design professionals in matters related to the practice of architecture and engineering and relevant areas of construction and real estate law. He has acted as an arbitrator in over 25 matters at the American Arbitration Association.
Mehrdad has been active in the AIA at local, state and national levels since 1981. He served as Vice President for Legislative Affairs at AIA California Council, and has contributed to AIA Contract Documents. He has served as chair of several committees at AIA/LA, including the Practice Committee which he is currently chairing. He has also been operating a telephone hotline on legal questions for AIA members and the public for many years.
