Born and raised in Highland Park\, she attended Pasadena City College and put herself through college at UCLA\, where she completed her bachelor’s degree. After graduating\, she went on to UCLA School of Law\, where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate with specializations in Critical Race Studies and the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. \nAs a former housing rights attorney\, Ysabel fought to stop tenant evictions and stood side by side with community organizations and small businesses that were at risk of losing their leases. Her 18 years of experience span from consulting (with RFR\, GNA\, SHoP Construction\, Arup) to being the Founder of Digne\, Dignified Constructions Solutions\, and Adjunct Faculty with SCI-Arc since ‘21. Sophie Pennetier teaches Structures and Embodied Carbon classes. Those two topics\, alongside façades\, are the core of her contributions to SCI-Arc Design Development projects. \nSophie’s elective class on embodied carbon responds to her students’ request to accelerate their knowledge in reducing upfront carbon. It supports their research projects on circular architecture and brings in internationally recognized industry trailblazers involved in policy\, sustainability consulting\, manufacturing\, contracting\, and circular economy. Her students’ work on embodied carbon has been applauded and sought after by major architecture and consulting firms and industry associations such as the Carbon Leadership Forum. The City’s goals to achieve water self-sufficiency\, zero waste\, and carbon neutrality require that Sustainability be at the forefront of project management and serves as a catalyst for public sector leadership in building practices. \nHeidi is FAIA\, LEED Fellow\, WELL AP\, Fitwel Ambassador\, and creator of the Collective Impact speaker series. Previously\, Heidi was VP of Sustainability at Skanska and Principal at Buro Happold. Heidi served on the USGBC California Board of Directors from 2013 to 2019. Joining in 2016\, she oversees the functional areas of the organization\, including management of over 2\,000 units of affordable housing\, housing development\, resident services\, maintenance\, and administration of 100 staff. Ms. Barauskas has over 25 years of experience in affordable housing development\, having worked at both for-profit and non-profit affordable housing development organizations prior to joining Community Corporation. \nHer past experience includes overseeing and managing the development process of numerous projects throughout California. Ms. Barauskas holds a Bachelors’ Degree in English from California State University\, Long Beach\, and a LEED AP Accreditation from the US Green Building Council. \nTara currently serves on several Boards – the Santa Monica Bay Area Human Relations Council\, Housing California\, the Santa Monica Bay Area Human Relations Council\, and the Westside Urban Forum. At Community Coalition for over 12 years\, Elhawary was mentored by Mayor Karen Bass and City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson and served as a youth organizer\, recruiting and developing future leaders of the social justice movement. Her achievements include helping establish the Fremont High School Wellness Center to reduce health disparities in a medically underserved neighborhood and securing the School Climate Bill of Rights to reduce racial profiling in schools. \nElhawary played a pivotal role in founding the Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice\, shaping its curriculum and first graduating class. Moore – Fire Chief\, Los Angeles City Fire Department\nFire Chief Jaime E. Moore was appointed as the 20th Fire Chief of the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) on November 14\, 2025\, becoming the leader of one of the nation’s largest and most complex all-hazard emergency response agencies. Chief Moore has dedicated more than three decades of service to the City of Los Angeles and is widely regarded for his commitment to operational excellence\, community resilience\, data-driven leadership\, and the well-being of the Department’s sworn and civilian workforce. \nBorn in Delhi\, Louisiana\, and raised in the Venice/Mar Vista area of Los Angeles in a Mexican-American household\, Chief Moore is proud of his multicultural upbringing and the Spanish-speaking heritage that shaped his leadership perspective. He is a graduate of Santa Monica High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California\, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Emergency Management from California State University\, Long Beach (CSULB). He is an Executive Fire Officer (EFO) through the National Fire Academy\, holds the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence\, and completed certificate programs in Diversity\, Equity & Inclusion for HR and Conflict Resolution at Cornell University. \nChief Moore joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1995 and has served in every one of the Department’s four Geographic Bureaus. He is known citywide for his tenure as a Public Information Officer and for leadership roles on state and regional Incident Management Teams. Promoted through the ranks\, Captain (2003)\, Captain II (2008)\, Battalion Chief (2014)\, Assistant Chief (2018)\, and Deputy Chief\, he has led major operational\, administrative\, and performance-management divisions throughout his career. \nAs the Commander of the FireStatLA Section\, Chief Moore built the foundation of the Department’s performance-leadership model\, championing analytics\, accountability\, and evidence-based decision-making. As the founding leader of the LAFD’s Equity and Human Resources Bureau\, he launched systems and programs that strengthened workforce effectiveness\, improved selection processes\, and advanced the Department’s DEI commitments. \nChief Moore later served as the Deputy Chief of Operations\, South Bureau\, and then as the Operations Valley Bureau\, LAFD’s largest geographic command\, where he oversaw five battalions\, 39 fire stations\, over 980 sworn personnel\, and critical emergency-response operations across 260 square miles of the San Fernando Valley. \nThroughout his career\, Chief Moore has been a strong advocate for education\, professionalism\, operational readiness\, and a culture rooted in empathy\, fairness\, and respect. He is a California State Certified Fire Prevention Officer\, Hazardous Materials Technician\, Strike Team Leader\, Public Information Officer\, and former Incident Commander of Field IMT 3. He has also served on numerous boards\, including the Chief Officers Association Executive Board\, where he served one year as Director of Professional & Social Development and four years as President\, and was a founding board member of Harbor Connects / Neighbors Helping Neighbors. \nAs Fire Chief\, he remains committed to delivering world-class all-hazard emergency services; preparing the city for major disasters and global events; enhancing training\, technology\, and innovation; strengthening community partnerships; and ensuring that every member of the LAFD is supported\, valued\, and equipped to succeed. \nChief Moore considers it the honor of his life to serve the people of Los Angeles and to lead the dedicated men and women of the Los Angeles City Fire Department. \nMORE ABOUT LAFD: \nThe Los Angeles Fire Department operates a number of bureaus that report directly to the Fire Chief. The Chief (formerly called “the Chief Engineer”) is the senior administrative and policy manager for the department. His term ends on June 30\, 2030. As a lawyer and strategic advisor\, Marks has a lengthy career in international project finance\, energy\, and infrastructure. \nMarks advises boards of directors\, senior executives\, investors\, fund managers\, and other organizations on corporate strategy\, risk management\, market and regulatory changes\, and capital formation\, particularly in connection with the energy transition\, renewable energy\, innovative clean technologies\, geopolitics\, financial innovation\, climate risks\, resilience\, and sustainability. As a lawyer\, he has handled complex energy and infrastructure transactions in the United States\, Canada\, Latin America\, Asia\, and Europe with an aggregate value of over $100 Billion\, finding innovative ways to create value and reduce risk. \nIn addition\, Marks teaches at both the University of California\, Berkeley School of Law and the UCLA School of Law\, where he is Affiliated Faculty at the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment\, a center of Columbia University’s Climate School; a Non-Resident Visiting Senior Fellow at NYU’s SPS Center for Global Affairs; and a Distinguished Scholar in Energy Law and Sustainability and Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School. He previously taught Energy and Infrastructure Project Finance at the University of California\, Berkeley for 12 years at both the Law School and the Haas School of Business. \nMarks is a Contributor to Forbes.
