SUMMARY:Nonresidential Overview of Energy Code Changes for Schools
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS\nJoin us for this one-hour session where we will review the 2025 Energy Code Mandatory and Prescriptive updates for nonresidential school buildings such as envelope\, mechanical\, covered process\, photovoltaic\, and battery storage building systems. In addition\, we will cover the new electric-ready and performance compliance metrics introduced in the 2025 Energy Code. \n  \nThis is a virtual event. Registered attendees will be sent a zoom link 24 hours prior to the event in the event confirmation email. \n  \nSPEAKERS\n \nGina Rodda – Owner of Gabel Energy \nGina Rodda is currently the Owner of Gabel Energy out of Castro Valley\, California\, and has been in the energy modeling field since 1991. She is an energy analyst performing a wide range of responsibilities in both residential and nonresidential construction pertaining to compliance standards and energy modeling within the United States\, while specializing in California Building Code. California local ordinances (or Reach codes) supporting electrification and electric preferred for multifamily\, hotel/motel and nonresidential buildings dictates much of the work Gabel Energy provides in Northern California in which Gabel Energy has been an active leader in heat pump mechanical equipment design choices as supported by the Energy Code and compliance software modeling. \nGina has worked with Energy Code Ace as a subject matter expert developing and supporting trainings\, resources and tools on the Residential and Nonresidential Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for building department staff\, energy consultants\, engineers\, contractors and architects. \nGina also works as a respected subject matter expert informing the statewide code development process since the 2013 Building Code cycle. \n  \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n– Review the new 2025 compliance metrics for schools\n– Review the 2025 Energy Code changes for envelope features for schools\n– Review the 2025 Energy Code changes for mechanical systems for schools\n– Review the 2025 Energy Code changes for solar and battery requirements for schools\n– Identify where to go for additional resources \n  \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR!

At Community Coalition for over 12 years\, Elhawary was mentored by Mayor Karen Bass and City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson and served as a youth organizer\, recruiting and developing future leaders of the social justice movement. Her achievements include helping establish the Fremont High School Wellness Center to reduce health disparities in a medically underserved neighborhood and securing the School Climate Bill of Rights to reduce racial profiling in schools. \nElhawary played a pivotal role in founding the Nelson Mandela School for Social Justice\, shaping its curriculum and first graduating class. Her work reflects her deep commitment to improving outcomes for women and young people of color while fostering Black/Brown solidarity. \nAssemblymember Elhawary holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
