SUMMARY:Advanced Framing: Quality Building with Less Lumber
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS\nMost houses are built with a surplus of wood framing that isn’t structurally necessary. Reducing that volume of wood means less cost and more insulation\, especially in wall assemblies. The course will go over the basics of wood framing\, then take you beyond typical framing practices and why alternatives are important. We’ll cover framing technical terms like “O.C.\,” Cripple\, Trimmer\, etc. and delve into alternative systems such as Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS). We’ll discuss Framing Factors and how they affect your energy compliance report. This course will also cover the origin of Advanced Framing and why it’s a great choice when framing buildings with wood\, even with exterior clad insulation. \nThis is a virtual event. Registered attendees will be sent a zoom link 24 hours prior to the event in the event confirmation email. \n  \nSPEAKER\n \nRon Kliewer – Owner of Kliewer & Associates \nRon Kliewer started out framing and remodeling homes and additions\, becoming a custom home builder/ General Contractor\, moving on to Special Inspector\, then BPI and IR Certified. He has worked around the world\, building everything from an outhouse to nuclear power plants\, while wearing many hats including Framer\, Finish Carpenter\, Cabinetmaker\, Electrician\, Plumber\, Special Inspector and Project Manager. He started building with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) decades ago\, and more recently used his expertise to manage the new construction and retrofits of over 2 dozen award winning energy efficient light commercial projects and the High-Performance Walls/ Attics “Smart Home” display at Southern California Edison’s (SCE)\, Energy Education Center in Irwindale.  \n  \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n1. Describe key components and terminology of residential wood framing systems\, including common members and spacing conventions.\n2. Apply advanced framing techniques to reduce unnecessary lumber use while maintaining structural integrity and improving wall assembly performance.\n3. Analyze how framing factors influence thermal performance and are reflected in Title 24 compliance documentation.\n4. Evaluate the cost\, material\, and labor savings potential of advanced framing methods compared to conventional practices\, including their suitability for projects with exterior continuous insulation \n  \nTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR!

SUMMARY:Proton Therapy: What No One Tells You
DESCRIPTION:Click here for Ticket Purchase Instructions & Support. \nEVENT DETAILS\nHigh-performing proton therapy doesn’t start with the machine—it starts with the decisions you make early. Proton therapy is reshaping cancer care\, but delivering these facilities is anything but straightforward. The biggest risks\, and opportunities\, are locked in long before design begins\, at the intersection of clinical goals\, system selection\, and project realities. \nThis session brings an integrated AEC lens to one of the most complex facility types in healthcare. We’ll examine how the choice between single-room and multi-room systems drives critical planning and design outcomes from space and shielding to infrastructure\, cost\, and feasibility. Grounded in project experience\, our team will share strategies and lessons learned to improve certainty\, streamline delivery\, and avoid common pitfalls. If you’re evaluating proton therapy\, this session will help you make smarter early decisions and set your project up for success from day one. \n  \nSPEAKERS\n \nFranck LeBousse – Principal\, Stantec \nFranck is a hands-on architect with more than 30 years of experience in architecture and design. For over a decade Franck has focused on bringing unique solutions to healthcare and proton therapy projects. His award-winning designs demonstrate his ability to blend complex technical elements with contextual aesthetic solutions. His efforts were recently recognized at a national level for his work on the New York Proton Center and Penn Medicine Presbyterian Proton Therapy Center. Franck is a regular speaker at NAPT and PTCOG conferences where he advocates for the advancement of architecture and design in healthcare and proton therapy. \n  \n \nMartina Botturi – Managing Principal\, BR+A Consulting Engineers\n \nMartina Botturi is Managing Principal of BR+A’s Los Angeles office and an electrical engineer specializing in the design of particle therapy facilities. With more than 15 years of experience and projects spanning multiple countries\, she works closely with proton therapy equipment vendors\, healthcare organizations\, and project teams to optimize facility infrastructure and navigate the technical complexities of proton therapy projects. Her expertise bridges the gap between clinical technology\, facility design\, and project delivery to support efficient and successful implementation of these highly specialized centers. \n  \n \nRudy Amato – Project Executive | Proton & Imaging SME – DPR Construction  \nRudy Amato serves as DPR Construction’s National Healthcare Proton Therapy Subject Matter Expert\, providing leadership and technical guidance across complex proton therapy projects nationwide. As an industry-leading expert with extensive experience in proton therapy delivery\, vendor coordination\, construction quality control\, and facility commissioning\, he brings specialized expertise in system integration\, mass-concrete quality control\, radiation-shielding coordination\, and commissioning readiness to support the safe\, precise\, and reliable delivery of advanced cancer treatment facilities. \n  \nAIA CES: 2.0 LU|HSW Approved\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n1) Understand how early decisions shape outcomes: Compare single-room and multi-room proton therapy systems and how each choice influences planning\, space\, and clinical workflow.\n2) Learn how system selections translate into real design implications: Explore the architectural\, structural\, and MEP demands of proton therapy—from shielding and infrastructure to coordination across disciplines.\n3) Gain insight into evaluating the impact of early choices on project success: How system selection affects feasibility\, including cost\, schedule\, constructability\, and long-term flexibility.\n4) Apply integrated strategies to improve delivery: Identify practical ways to align clinical\, design\, and construction teams to reduce risk\, streamline delivery\, and achieve high-performing outcomes. \n  \nTRANSPORTATION & PARKING INFORMATION\nMetro:\nThe Stantec Office is conveniently located just one block south of the 7th Street Metro Station\, making it easily accessible by public transit. \nParking:\nYou can park underneath the 801 S. Figueroa building (expensive)\, with entry to the parking ramp from the south side of 8th Street.\nFor more affordable parking options\, there is a garage next door at 990 W 8th Street\, which can also be accessed from Francisco Street.

SUMMARY:Creatives in Conversation – Between Space and Story: Art\, Architecture\, and the Making of Experience
DESCRIPTION:Click here for Ticket Purchase Instructions & Support. \nEVENT DETAILS\nCreatives in Conversation – Between Space and Story: Art\, Architecture\, and the Making of Experience. \nWhat transforms space into experience? This panel brings creatives who explore how practices across disciplines shape the way we perceive\, inhabit\, and remember the built environment.\n \nFrom the legacy of modernist architecture to the expressive potential of infrastructure and the conceptual language of contemporary art\, each panelist approaches space as both a physical construct and a cultural narrative. \nThrough their work\, materials\, systems\, and form become tools for storytelling—bridging the personal and the collective\, the intimate and the civic.\n \nSet at the MAK Center at the Schindler House\, the conversation will examine how art and architecture intersect to create meaning\, provoke engagement\, and redefine the boundaries between object\, environment\, and experience. \n  \nClick HERE to support the Interior Architecture Committee & Creatives in Conversation. \nClick HERE to learn more about our moderator and speakers! \n  \nPARKING\n\nNon-restricted street parking is available nearby (early arrival recommended).\nA public parking garage is also located at Kings Road & Santa Monica Boulevard (northeast corner).\n\nKings Road Municipal Parking Structure – 8383 CA-2 \, West Hollywood\, CA 90069  + Map\nParking fees $1 per 20 minutes\, up to $8 if arriving before 6pm\, up to $5 if arriving after 6pm.
