Over the course of nine months\, individuals and teams designed and fabricated one-of-a-kind pieces using reclaimed\, salvaged\, and repurposed materials. Ranging in scale from footstools to dining tables\, the work explores the creative potential of material intelligence\, low-cost fabrication\, and hands-on making. The exhibition celebrates creativity\, craftsmanship\, collaboration\, and CO Architects’ culture of making. \nThe opening celebration features a panel discussion with workshop participants and invited guests\, offering insights into the design process\, fabrication challenges\, and the role of making in architectural practice. Since joining CO Architects in 1999\, he has been recognized for his passion for design\, craftsmanship\, and the art of building. A lifelong maker with roots in carpentry\, Fabian championed CO Architects’ inaugural Furniture Design Workshop\, fostering a culture of hands-on making\, material exploration\, and creative collaboration across the firm.\n\n  \nPanelist 2: Cory Grosser\, Designer\, Educator\, and Author of Happy Minimalism™\n\nCory Grosser is an American product designer\, interior architect\, and art director. He is known for Happy Minimalism™\, a design philosophy centered on clarity\, reduction\, and optimism. A professor at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena\, Grosser’s work focuses on how design decisions shape human behavior\, understanding\, and trust.\n  \n\n\nPanelist 3: Chun Liu\, AIA\, LEED AP\, WELL AP\, Senior Associate\, CO Architects \n \n\n\nChun Liu\, AIA\, is a Senior Associate at CO Architects with over 15 years of experience in designing healthcare\, higher education\, and science & technology facilities. Her work focuses on creating thoughtful\, collaborative environments that balance technical complexity with human-centered design. As a participant in Call to Makers\, Chun explored how the design thinking and problem-solving skills developed in architecture can be applied at the furniture scale through hands-on making\, material experimentation\, and sustainable reuse. \n  \nPanelist 4: Reza Feiz\, Founder/Creative Director\, Phase Design \n \nAutodidact award-winning designer Reza Feiz has always been drawn to the strength in simplicity. Lured to Southern California by its inventive\, creative spirit\, he discovered his true calling among the community of creators and artisans who transform imagination into reality. Inspired by Los Angeles’ iconic landscape and the beauty of the places and spaces he encountered\, he envisioned furniture\, lighting\, and tabletop accessories\, fabricating them from contemporary materials with the help of skilled craftspeople. \nThe resulting restrained yet revolutionary pieces have earned international recognition. He has been lauded as “An American designer who influences world design” and “One of a group of select young designers who represent the leading edge of discovery in design.” Architectural Digest noted that his “wide-ranging collections make a strong case for the enduring appeal of restrained modern design\,” while Surface Magazine praised his work for its 21st-century edge and timeless relevance. \n\n\nModerator: Carley Knoblooch\, Technology Designer\, AudioVisions\n\nResidential Technology and Lighting Designer Carley Knobloch transforms houses into brilliantly responsive homes where technology whispers rather than shouts. She has been a TV personality for over a decade\, regularly appearing on shows like the Today Show and as HGTV’s Smart Home guru. A recent flood-turned-renovation sparked her passion for remodeling and unique perspective at the intersection of design and smart home technology. She now bridges the gap between architects\, interior designers\, and home automation specialists\, creating “intelligent homes” that blend technology and beauty without compromising a home’s aesthetic or usability. Carley’s career as a technology expert includes collaborations with premier brands like LG\, Samsung\, Citibank and Google.
