The Standard

brand is a part of Andre Balazs Properties. It is a group of four boutique hotels in Los Angeles (Hollywood and Downtown LA), Miami (Miami Beach) and New York. The first Standard in Hollywood, was originally used as the Thunderbird Motel, opened in 1962, but had become a retirement home when Balazs purchased and remodeled it. In 2002 the Standard Downtown, LA opened in a converted 1952, 12-story, marbled clad Superior Oil Company Building. The renovation was designed by Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Inc. In 2003, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places based on its architecture.
