AIA|LA Member in Competition to Receive $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant for Design & Humanitarian Project
Los Angeles, CA (September 13, 2011) - AIA Los Angeles Associate Member and former Chapter Staffer Tina Hovsepian, Assoc. AIA is a finalist for a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project and is seeking support from fellow AIA|LA members for votes. AIA|LA commends the efforts of this young professional as she works to integrate design and humanitarianism.
Hovsepian is a native Southern Californian and a 2009 graduate from the USC School of Architecture. At USC, she developed a project called CARDBORIGAMI that has since grown into a non-profit organization seeking to provide immediate and portable shelter to the homeless and disaster relief victims.
By combining the ancient art of origami with cardboard, Hovsepian has created a temporary shelter that opens and closes in less than a minute with no assembly required. CARDBORIGAMI provides a viable option as an intermediate step towards obtaining permanent housing and does so via the realm of design.
During the month of September, CARDBORIGAMI is a contender for a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant and securing the grant would allow this new non-profit to continue on its mission. Voting from members and friends of AIA|LA could significantly boost votes for this worthy endeavor.
