Gene Summers, FAIA, who left his design imprint on some of the world's most recognizable Modern landmarks, a protégé of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and an outstanding alumnus of Texas A&M's College of Architecture, died Dec. 12 in Sebastopol, California.
A developer as well as an architect, who undertook the first major renovation of the historic Biltmore Hotel, reviving interest in downtown Los Angeles and helping to spark its revitalization, Mr. Summers was a member of AIA Chicago at the time of his death.
