AIA|LA Announces Faculty Winner of 2x8 Student Exhibition Design Competition!

Matthew Gillis is the winner of the 2x8 Student Exhibition Design competition!

January 10, 2012 - After numerous responses to the request for proposals that went out in early November, AIA|LA is proud to announce that SCI-Arc and Otis faculty member, Matthew Gillis' project is the winning entry for the ten year anniversary of the 2x8 Student Exhibition.

The jury said that Gillis' project is an original concept that has the flexibility to fit in many different spaces. It is also important to note that the project has the ability to stimulate many emotions, as it adapts to the day or night, supporting rather than taking away from the student's work.

The 2x8 Student Exhibition has featured the works of over 150 students from over 15 architecture and design schools in California, raising more than $100,000 since its inception ten years ago; students participating in 2x8 have reaped the benefits of being a part of such a prestigious competition.

Matthew Gillis is the principal of GILLIS, a design studio in Los Angeles. His work integrates ecological research, digital design and architectural fabrication to create sensually dense environments and experiences. Gillis also teaches at SCI-Arc, Otis and Woodbury Universities.
