NEW APPROACHES TO CALIFORNIA'S SUSTAINABLE BUILT ENVIRONMENT WHO: 5th annual BREATHE LA Green Salon Series focuses on fostering environmental and economic sustainability: Green Industries/Green Jobs WHAT: Expert panel discussion with robust Q&A to survey outstanding innovations that contribute to a more healthful and environmentally sustainable built environment, including a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Speakers include:
- Brian J. Cornelius, Vice President of Development, Caruso Affiliated
- Heidi Creighton, Sustainability Consultant, Burro Happold
- Steve Glenn, CEO, livinghomes
- Richard Hansen, Vice President, AECOM Building Engineering, US West
- Gillian Wright, Director of Commercial and Industrial Services, Southern California Gas Company Increasingly, the public is familiar with the system of LEED standards for buildings as a way to achieve high performance in key areas of human and environmental health. Moreover, through practice, new concepts are emerging such as carbon neutral buildings, zero-energy development and re-generative design. Regardless of the term, a growing trend is apparent that encompasses a whole building approach, seeking to better integrate systems to improve overall functioning. A great deal of experimentation is underway that will take us beyond current practices-in design, development and property management--and this Salon will give us a glimpse of some of those cutting-edge practices. Important questions will be raised, such as: How can we learn from exemplars to grow a new vibrant development sector in our region? And, what role can be played by our energy providers that are committed to sustainable practices? WHEN: Thursday, September 6th, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM WHERE: The California Endowment, 1000 N. Alameda Street, Los Angeles, 90012 COST: No cost to attend. Space is limited. Free parking. However, please consider taking transit to Union Station
