Arup Shapes a Better World

event: Around the world, Arup buildings are icons of outstanding architecture and engineering, from the Opera House in Sydney and the Pompidou Centre in Paris to the “Water Cube” currently under construction for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Please join us for multidisciplinary panel featuring Arup leaders from London, Hong Kong, Seattle and Los Angeles, including Cecil Balmond, Raymond Yau, Gary Lawrence and Bruce McKinlay. They will discuss the firm’s pioneering work and global vision for the future of engineering and sustainability. The discussion will be moderated by Qingyun Ma, Dean of the USC School of Architecture. Celebrate LA

award: The Volunteer Center of Los Angeles-Assistance League of Southern California is pleased to present the 2008 CelebrateLA Volunteer Recognition Event being held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California on April 27, 2008. This celebration will honor and recognize the volunteer contributions made by thousands of men and women in Los Angeles County this year. More than 1,000 non-profit organizations are expected to participate in this one of a kind event. Admission is FREE and activities on the day of the event include arts & crafts, awards, carnival games, giveaways, music, prizes, information booths and much more. This is a great opportunity for non- profits, businesses and corporations to recognize their outstanding volunteers, staff members, board members and organization for FREE. Volunteers will be honored on the day of the event. CelebrateLA is open to the general public and there is no fee to attend.
