Why Plastic Bags are Bad for the Environment

Talk with Q&A by Ellen Monocroussos of Heal the Bay

Ms. Toyoshima will discuss the damage caused by plastic bags and other trash in our rivers, seas and other natural environments, explain how Heal the Bay is helping to prevent this damage and suggest how we can all help to reduce the damage.

The new lecture series at the Silver Lake Library is off and running! These monthly programs provide information and community guidance on various aspects of sustainable living. The series is free to the public and includes talks and workshops by sustainability experts plus documentary films about a range of sustainable practices. This series is a collaboration between the Silver Lake Branch of the LA Library and Sustainable Silver Lake, and is organized by Meher McArthur, a Silver Lake resident, writer of the "Keen to be Green" column in the Los Feliz Ledger, and SSL member. Space is limited, so please call the Library at (323) 913-7453 to reserve your place. At the first event last month, the library's architect, Mr. Michali of M2A gave an introduction to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) requirements and how the design process for the Silver Lake Library integrated green design features into the planning, design and construction to target the goal of reaching a Gold level building.
