DESCRIPTION: To some, the City of Glendale's San Fernando Corridor is only an opportunity to avoid Interstate 5's rush hour traffic, to others, commuter or not, it is a textbook example of urban blight, of urban neglect. Then there are an imaginative few, who see opportunity, as well as promise, in revitalizing this short segment of Historic Route 99. Their vision of urban renewal, for a section of highway that in better days was called "The Main Street of California", is a demonstration of creative and innovative leadership. It is a fine example of a municipality's willingness to look beyond the obvious, beyond just thinking outside the box, to instead - "recreating the box", itself.
