Designing for Pedestrian Safety (2-day Workshop)
Metro invites you to participate in a 2-day Pedestrian Safety Design Workshop. This is part of an effort to make our city and region safer for pedestrians. The initiative is being funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
The workshop is designed for:
Engineers, planners, traffic safety and enforcement professionals, public health and injury prevention professionals, and decision-makers who are seeking ideas and solutions for making changes to the physical environment that will improve safety for pedestrians.
Learn about:
- Effective solutions and best practices in design and operations for pedestrian safety.
- Topics covered include: sidewalk and walkway design; intersection geometry; signs, signals, and crosswalks; interchange design and alternatives; facilities at signalized intersections; roundabouts; connections to transit; and road diets and other traffic calming measures.
- Significance of land-use, street connectivity and site design to create a safer pedestrian environment.
- Common types of pedestrian crashes.
You can choose from one of the following sessions below. All workshop sessions will be held at Metro Headquarter, One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90012, from 8:30am - 4:30pm. All sessions will cover the same content.

Monday, November 15 & Tuesday, November 16
Wednesday, November 17 & Thursday, November 18
The workshop will include a walking field trip to a problem area to help participants understand and identify obstacles to walking. We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
