Can SCAG's Compass Blueprint planning program help your city?

Announcing an open call for Demonstration Project proposals from the Southern California Association of Governments.

Compass Blueprint planning services are available, free of charge, to local government jurisdictions for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

The program promotes creative, forward-thinking, and sustainable development solutions that fit local needs and support shared regional values. Services are offered for Demonstration Projects that are expected to provide local and regional benefits including fewer car trips, lower carbon emissions, more transit use, improved public health and fiscal benefits to local governments.

With the recent passage of Senate Bill 375, this year's program will focus on reducing regional vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and resulting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Requests are evaluated, in part, based on the project's ability to provide balanced transportation choices and a mixture of land uses and housing types consistent with the principles of the Compass Blueprint and emerging Sustainable Communities Strategies. Projects that are located within downtowns, along transportation corridors and in proximity to significant transit infrastructure will receive additional consideration. Efforts will be made to ensure that project funding is equitably distributed throughout the region. Past Demonstration Project partner jurisdictions may propose work that will move their plans closer to implementation and construction.

Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on October 21st, 2010.

More information and application materials are online at www.compassblueprint.org/apply. All applicants or interested persons are encouraged to contact SCAG directly. E-mail or call Peter Brandenburg at or (213) 236-1937. SCAG staff is eager to assist you in assembling a winning application.
