CACCAVALE FOLLOWS UP FIRST SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION WITH NEW PHOTO COLLECTION AT THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS LOS ANGELES

iRchitecture: an architecture+design photographic travelogue through the lens of my iPhone by Carlo Caccavale

Los Angeles, CA (January 4, 2012) - After his highly successful debut show at the Pacific Design Center in 2011, iPhotographer Carlo Caccavale will follow up with the opening of his second iPhotographic exhibition, iRchitecture, on Saturday January 21, 2012 from 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM at the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles Gallery Space.

Caccavale's interest continues to lay firmly in architecture and design, but whereas his previous exhibition, The Eye and the iPhone, was a compendium of design-inspired images with an "abstract" twist, iRchitecture mostly focuses on the built environment and celebrates the design that most struck his attention during recent travels. Caccavale's personal take on reality is obvious in all his work and the photography exhibited as part of iRchitecture reflects this unique vision and style.

In the Words of the Artist...

This is a collection of images shot with my iPhone that has spontaneously grown from a dependence on the device. In fact, the iPhone is my all-in-one instrument: my phone, my partial laptop, communication gadget, entertainment set and eye on the world. My friend and assistant.

I started playing with the iPhone camera because it was there and made it easy to take pictures. Little by little, I wasn't carrying my actual camera around with me any longer. My iPhone lens has turned into the filter through which I witness the reality I find interesting enough to digitally immortalize. I have developed my iPhone point of view by playing with the features -- both the good and the bad -- that the instrument offers. And in doing so, I have discovered that the way my eyes see the world and the way I see it though my iPhone are sometimes different. The photos I take mostly tend to evoke reality, rather than depict it for what it is. My pictures are about the details and distortions of life - and the iPhone is the perfect ally for this.

More About Myself...

Although my professional background might seem varied, it is my visual sense that pulls my professional (and personal) life together.

I worked in TV and film production both in Italy and the US. Then I moved to website development and marketing when the whole internet start-up frenzy exploded in the mid-90's. On the side, and for my own pleasure, I also wrote screenplays, produced and directed short films. Finally, I landed at the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles where I eat and breath architecture and design. Looking back, I realize the common thread of my career is the prominent presence of visual elements across my fields of interest. This all allowed me to develop a strong point of view and a way to visually tell a story, any story.

Publicly showing my work and the collection of iPhone images I have gathered in the past few years allows me to share the stories that come from my personal life and experiences. And maybe stimulate curiosity and some good conversation.
