The AIA/LA POC meets on the second Tuesday of each month at AIA Los Angeles, unless otherwise noted. Participation is open to all AIA members interested in design advocacy.

The AIA/LA Political Outreach Committee (POC) MISSION STATEMENT

To help establish a political voice for architects and perform outreach to policy makers and elected officials on matters of importance to AIA/LA and its membership.

Goals and Objectives Develop policy positions on matters related to the built environment, urban design, and the practice of architecture. The POC can serve both as a catalyst that initiates new policy and as an advocate and advisor that encourages and promotes proposed City policies already in development.

Strategies * Develop relationships and dialogue with policy makers and elected officials through annual Legislative Day.
* Continue to contact, schedule, and follow up on meetings with key City officials throughout the year
* Reinforce relationships and outreach through Breakfast Receptions and other hosted events
* Advocate for AIA members to be appointed to Boards and Commissions
* Filter issues and actions brought forward to the Chapter by its members and act in an advisory capacity to the Board on potential actions to take.

Relationship to AIA/LA Board of Directors The POC shall be made up of interested members of the Chapter committed to helping shape and advocate on issues of interest to the membership. The Board shall designate current Board members to function as a liaison between the Committee and the Board with one Board member being designated as the Chair the POC on an annual basis. The Board member liaisons shall be responsible to update the Board on activities of the POC and to discuss work plans, event planning, and advocacy positions initiated and/or developed by the POC. The Board shall be the final authority on official positions taken by the AIA/LA Chapter and disseminated in the public realm.
