AIA|LA COTE presents: High Performance Buildings- Concept to Reality
Background:
High Performance Buildings (HPB) have been defined as Buildings that integrate and optimize high performance attributes including resource conservation, durability, productivity, functionality and operation. The panel will provide presentations, case studies and discussion to take a 360-degree view of the implementation of High Performance Building Design.
The team will start by identifying how the term 'High Performance' affects the design process and will outline the critical nature of evaluating the needs of the surrounding community and the end-users who will own, maintain and occupy the buildings on a daily basis. The discussion will have a primary focus on the design process and will highlight early phase strategies that can optimize performance throughout procurement, construction and post occupancy. In each case, methods will be explored that mitigate risk and assure success factors can be achieved as they relate to cost of construction, design and construction schedule, and quality of installation. The discussion will outline a strategy to assess, define, achieve and verify targets under the umbrella of high-performance Design.
