This month's presentation of the AIA|LA Committee on Architecture in Healthcare will feature another update of the Palomar Pomerado Health - Palomar Medical Center West in North San Diego County, while focusing on the exterior envelope design, coordination, production and construction highlighting the following:
- The practical and varied use of BIM in exterior cladding design and documentation
- Understanding of the advantages in using physical and virtual mockups during the course of a project
- Presenting the challenges and benefits of global material sourcing and fabrication
- Multiple aspects of sustainability that reach far beyond certification requirements.

Alex Korter's architectural experience in both Europe and the United States encompasses the design, technical coordination and management of a diverse range of projects varying in size and complexity. Alex holds special interest in developing innovative exterior envelope systems and making environmental, economic, social and functional sustainable design a fundamental part of projects in order to ensure their success over time.
He spent four years on the design of the 360-bed, 740,000-sf Palomar Medical Center West (PMCW) replacement hospital in northern San Diego County. His work was centered on designing and planning the Diagnostic & Treatment portion of the project and the development of the complete exterior cladding system for the hospital, including extensive strategies revolving around enhanced communication through the use of BIM. This pioneering BIM work on PMCW was recognized with the 2010 AIA Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) National BIM Excellence Award.

Associate, CO Architects
A registered Architect in the States of New York and Nevada, Kevin is a specialist in the design and construction of building envelopes including high rise residential, commercial and institutional buildings and custom structures.
Kevin has consulted and directed testing and inspections services of curtain wall, metal cladding, pre-cast, Stucco, EIFS, roofing and composite panel assemblies. His work experience includes facade restoration and re-cladding including work performed on Historic Landmark buildings.
