Associate "New Grad" Membership: What’s in it for me?

Dear New Graduate and Prospective Associate AIA Member:

If you fall under any one of the following categories, you’re invited to be a part of the leading organization representing the profession, The American Institute of Architects (AIA,) as an Associate member:

  • Recent graduate (2014 or 2015) with a degree in architecture, and/or

  • Currently enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working toward licensure, and/or

  • Currently work under the supervision of a licensed architect, and/or

  • Faculty member (not yet licensed) in a university program in architecture

Right now Associate membership is FREE through the end of 2016 for 2015 graduates joining through the AIA/Los Angeles Chapter. (Or through the end of 2015, for 2014 graduates.)* You can qualify in one of two ways:

Eligibility for Associates / New Graduates: NAAB Degree Holders

Recently graduated with a NAAB-accredited Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate professional degree in architecture within approximately the past 1-18 months.

Eligibility for Associates / New Graduates: Non-NAAB Degree Holders

  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, and
  • Recently graduated with a non-NAAB Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree within approximately the past 1-18 months

OR

  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, and
  • Currently enrolled or participating in circumstances recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit towards architectural licensure

*First year regular dues for Associates are currently $280; Second year dues are currently $307; for the third year and each year thereafter, $338. Second year dues apply after the free New Graduate membership period has ended.

** Recent Graduates: Complimentary Membership Offer. The AIA national component, California Council and AIA Los Angeles extend a special offer to individuals who have graduated with a degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited school of Architecture. You must provide a copy of your diploma. Not all local Chapters offer free new graduate membership. You must live or work in the AIA/LA Chapter territory and have graduated from an NAAB accredited program in the past 18 months to be eligible. This offer provides qualified individuals up to 18 months of free Associate membership in the AIA.
