2013 AIA|LA Design Awards
AIA Los Angeles (AIA|LA) announced the 2013 Design Awards winners Monday night, October 28, 2013. The ceremony incorporated local design & architecture journalists, academic and civic leaders as well as community movers and shakers. The varied program included special appearances via video by LACMA CEO, Michael Govan, CicLAvia’s Executive Director Aaron Paley and Omar Brownson, Executive Director of the L.A. River Revitalization Corporation.

Held at the Broad Stage Theater in the Santa Monica Performing Arts Center, the ceremony went smoothly with 31 firms and 25 Presidential Honorees receiving awards. Awards included the Cultural Affairs Architecture Awards (presented by Jennifer Ferro, KCRW General Manager), the Next LA Awards (presented by Alexis Drosu, Form Magazine Editor in Chief & Pauline O’Connor of CurbedLA), the Design Awards (presented by David Martin, FAIA & Danielle Martin, AIA of AC Martin Associates) and the Presidential Honor Awards (presented by AIA|LA Chapter President, Scott Johnson, FAIA).
Presidential Honorees included, among others, Mayor Eric Garcetti, international artist James Turrell, LACMA CEO, Michael Govan. The Building Team Award went to LAX Building Team, and the Gold Medal went to Frederick Fisher of Frederick Fisher and Partners.
The annual AIA Los Angeles Design Awards honor excellence in work built by Los Angeles architects (Design Awards) as well as work by Los Angeles designers as yet unbuilt (Next LA Awards). In both the Design and Next LA categories, jury awards are given in three classifications: Citation, Merit and Honor.

ABOUT THE AIA|LA DESIGN AWARDS
