2009 Arch Is Archive

The American Institute of Architects Los Angeles Chapter proudly announces the winners of the first annual Arch Is_ program.

Congratulations to:
Dwayne Oyler and Jenny Wu – Oyler Wu Collaborative, Los Angeles, CA
Tom Wiscombe – EMERGENT, Los Angeles, CA

The winners will receive a $500 cash prize, a Young Architectural Talent award certificate from the AIA/LA Chapter, and the invitation to present a 30 minute lecture based on the architectural position and design work submitted.

The jury composed by Scott Johnson FAIA, Principal of Johnson Fain; Christopher Hawthorne, Architectural Critic for the LA Times; Brook Hodge, Independent Curator; Hitoshi Abe – Chair of the Dept. of Architecture and Urban Design at UCLA also decided to award two certificates of Honorable Mention to:

Kevin Wronske – Heyday Partnership, Los Angeles, CA

The award ceremony and lectures are scheduled for Monday, April 5 2010, 7 pm at SCI-Arc (960 East 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013)

Arch Is_ is a juried competition to select 2 talented young architects or architectural designers (or firms/collaborations) to receive a “Young Architectural Talent” award, give a lecture, and be featured in an online publication.

Open to any architectural design collaborations, architectural design partnerships, architects or architectural designers who have been out of school for a min. of 5 years and a max. of 12 years and have graduated from an accredited architecture school. E.g. B.A., B.S., B. Arch, or M. Arch. (Proof of such credentials will be requested only of the winners as final verification).

Jury will evaluate each entrant’s Submission Package based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity of the entrant’s thoughts and the translation of that into his/her/their design work.
  • Relevance of the entrant’s thoughts and work to today’s times and issues.
