UPCOMING EVENT:
Overview of CALGreen Code
Thursday July 14, 2011 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
DLR Group
3130 Wilshire Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90404

The California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) is the first statewide green building code in the country and seeks to establish minimum green building standards for the majority of residential and commercial new construction projects across California. As the requirements of CALGreen take effect this year, many wonder how the new code compares with other established green building standards, such as the Los Angeles Green Building Code.

Join the AIA|LA Building Performance and Regulations Committee for an introduction to CALGreen with Mr. Osama Younan who will present an overview of the salient points of the CALGreen Code with emphasis on the differences between the new CALGreen Code and the existing Los Angeles Green Building Code Ordinance. He will also discuss proposed L.A. City amendments to the state code as well as how the code will affect the development of construction documents and the Building Permit process in Los Angeles.

Osama Younan is the Chief of the Mechanical Engineering and Green Building Section in the City of Los Angeles' Department of Building and Safety. He represents the Department on Green Building issues and other issues relating to sustainability. Osama Younan is a member of the City of Los Angeles Green Building Team and was part of the 2008 and 2010 California Green Building Standards Code Focus Group.

Osama Younan is a licensed mechanical engineer with the State of California and a LEED Accredited Professional with the US Green Building Council. He serves on the California Building Officials Green Building Committee and he is the Vice Chair of the Los Angele s Basin Chapter Green Building Committee.
