I think you are in for trouble. We have historic preservation people in our office and they really get concerned about changing the drying potential of a wall. There is a double hit, the insulation not only slows down or stops the normal drying to the interior because it is a layer with a much lower perm rating than the previous plaster (probably lime and sand) but also by adding the insulation it guarantees that the wall will remain cold many more hours per year, for even lower drying potential. I think that you could reasonably predict to see the old soft mortar and the old soft bricks start to disintegrate. Of course if you get rid of the insulation the new high humidity will pump water into the wall. If you add a vapor barrier over the brick to stop the new humidity from infiltrating the wall you once again stop the inward drying. When our historic preservation group updates old buildings you either don’t insulate (sorry to the green guys but you are reusing a building) or you place the insulating layer about 12 inches inside the existing exterior walls and make sure that the resulting air space maintains conditions similar to what the exterior walls have experienced for their previous 100 years.
