Join us for the Urban SOS: All Systems Go Event!

Urban SOS: All Systems Go is a global open ideas competition co-hosted by AECOM, Van Alen Institute, and 100 Resilient Cities—Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation. We called on multidisciplinary teams of students to envision more resilient food, water, and energy systems for supplying cities and regions today and in the future. This annual competition was created to engage students in urban planning and design, architecture, landscape architecture, environmental design, and engineering with the issues confronting modern cities and promote cross-disciplinary thinking in urban problem-solving among the emerging generation of designers. Now in its sixth year, the competition provides a platform for undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate students to propose solutions that will be seen by established professionals in their field.

The Competition:
Student teams hail from universities worldwide in what is a truly outstanding geographic spread. This year, nearly 100 universities from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge to the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen are represented. Proposals were judged by a network of AECOM designers, planners, and engineers across the globe.

The Event:
Please join us! The competition culminates in a charrette held in Los Angeles on the evening of October 15th at the A+D Museum where the three final teams present their schemes to a distinguished jury.  A reception will immediately follow, during which winners will be announced. Drinks and light nibbles will be served.  Feel free to bring friends and family.

A winning team will be selected live and announced at the event. Jurors will award US$15,000 in prizes. In addition, AECOM will make available up  to US$25,000 in cash and in-kind staff time to support the implementation of a prototype of the winning team’s strategies.
