AIA|LA presents...
Urban Design Standards for Fire Prevention Equipment

Wednesday, January 13 (1pm - 3:00pm)
SPEAKER:  Hani G. Malki, P.E., MPA - CUPA Manager, Los Angeles Fire Department

Bureau of Fire Prevention and Public Safety, Environmental Unit
201 N Figueroa St, 3rd Floor
Fire Department Conference Room
Los Angeles, CA 90012, USA

PLEASE RSVP to will@aialosangeles.org - LIMITED CAPACITY.

Background info:
The goal of this meeting will be to form an ad-hoc working group to help the Los Angeles Fire Department “Create (in conjunction with the design community) and then publish selected handouts for the public.  These handouts could address (1) fire prevention equipment requirements and location preferences (i.e. control panels, FDC connections, standpipes, extinguisher cabinets, emergency signage, sprinklers, ladders, etc.); (2) off site fire truck staging at the curb or driveway apron, and (3) on site path clearances, vertical roof top access requirements and rated wall assemblies."

A small working group will meet with Hani and fire department staff and come up with the requirements that LAFD is looking for.  Then the Group will develop some diagrams to support a handout(s) to be published by LAFD.

The focus would be on typical 50 ft wide lots that are no deeper than 150 ft.  When it gets deeper than 150 ft., LAFD tends to need a more customized approach.

Please note:  If you’d rather have someone else from your firm get involved with this effort, then please forward this invitation to them directly and encourage them to RSVP to Will Wright at will@aialosangeles.org.  We will need a strong working group if we want to advance this initiative to the next level.
