The Los Angeles Lakers have a new base of operations at the brand-new UCLA Health Training Center. It’s a big shift from their previous space marking a new era for the Lakers. The design of the Lakers new home embraces and reflects their new culture, values, and goals. The $80 million facility rethinks conventional programming for training facilities, traditionally based on a purely functional layout, and establishes a philosophy of integration between basketball operations and business operations.

The 121,900-square foot, two-story facility in El Segundo, California provides LA Lakers’ basketball players and leadership with a hospitality-oriented environment. The exclusive tour, will feature their “home away from home” following the footsteps the players take every day. Guests will walk through the Hall of Fame and toward a gold door at the entry, reflecting on the legacy of the club and their position in the organization’s history.

The exterior features 276 fins at 2 feet x 4 feet and approximately 18’ tall that provide light and visibility into and out of the facility while screening direct sunlight and heat. The exterior architecture is drawn into the interior space with the interplay of transparency and light between floors. The connective program to integrate the franchise, program for public and private functions, and domestic-oriented player amenities sets a new standard for the space that merges the organization’s culture and values as it strives to develop a new basketball legacy.

Members will have the opportunity to visit the 750-seat practice and exhibition court, offices for both basketball and business operations, executive office overlooking two basketball courts, a weight and conditioning gym, plyometric training areas, a theater/screen room, a barbershop, a kitchen directed by a nutritionist, and a player quiet room, among others. The architecture contributes to the Lakers’ new culture, inspiring collaboration and teamwork.
