THE BLOC

Los Angeles is dotted with renewed early century buildings now filled with pristine offices and loft apartments. Adaptive reuse is an easy option when the building is beautiful to begin with. But what of the harder to adapt places? What do we do with those Brutalist architectural bastards that shut out the street, sunlight and fresh air?

THE BLOC transforms the second-worst block in downtown L.A. into a place that beckons passersby and opens to the sky. Join us for a tour of the construction under-way. We will end with a conversation between developer, architect, landscape architect and cultural anthropologist on taking the Macy'sfortress and turning it inside out.
