Sustainability at City Hall
The New United States Courthouse Case Study
Located on a prominent block in downtown Los Angeles, the New United States Courthouse’s design has a strong civic presence rooted in classic principles driven by environmental performance and sustainable strategies. The courthouse’s design optimizes the potential of natural light through the integration of a high-performance, pleated glass façade, spatial and programmatic organization and advanced technology. Targeting LEED Platinum certification and the GSA’s 2020 energy target of 35K/BTU/GSF annual consumption, sustainability is evident in every aspect of the project, from the drought-tolerant landscaping of its plaza to the rooftop photovoltaic array that is expected to generate 500,000 kWh annually.
