re:CODE LA: Update on Project Direction from LA City Planning Staff
This meeting is an update on re:code LA, a comprehensive revision to the zoning code, since the last formal discussion with AIA. The main objective is to discuss the direction of the new zones and gain feedback.

Speakers:
Tom Rothmann, Principal Planner. Tom has worked at the Los Angeles Department of City Planning since 1999 and is currently the Principal City Planner for the comprehensive Zoning Code rewrite project – re:code LA.  In addition to re:code LA, Tom supervises the Code Studies Section and has drafted citywide zoning ordinances on a variety of topics including mixed-use zoning, affordable housing, urban farming, development reform, murals, and parking.

Deborah Kahen, AICP, City Planner. Deborah has extensive Code amendment experience. Notable work includes addressing solar panels, permeable paving, urban agriculture, and implementing the City's first green building program. She currently serves as a supervisor for re:code LA, a comprehensive rewrite of the zoning code, and as Policy Director for the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Erick Lopez, City Planner. Erick started his career in planning with the City of Fullerton, followed by a short time with the City of Malibu.  He joined the Los Angeles Department of City Planning in 2003 working on assignments that included community plans, community design overlays, pedestrian oriented districts, specific plans, and historic preservation overlay zones. Erick helped developed the Hillside Area Map, Baseline Mansionization Ordinance, and Baseline Hillside Ordinance for single family development throughout the City. In 2011, he was assigned as head of the Code Simplification Unit which ultimately led to a five-year work program to comprehensively revise the Zoning Code. He currently serves as a supervisor for re:code LA.
