AIA PRESENTS
"BUILDING LACMA" WITH MICHAEL GOVAN, CEO AND WALLIS ANNENBERG DIRECTOR OF LACMA

Please join AIA at our January 19th, 6PM event featuring Michael Govan, the Chief Executive Officer and Wallis Annenberg Director of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Mr. Govan has served as CEO and Director at LACMA for a decade now. He has already had significant impacts inside and across the Museum during his tenure – adding over 27,000 works to the Museum’s collection — and now he is at the forefront of the effort to transform the Museum’s physical presence itself on Wilshire Boulevard.  Mr. Govan will discuss LACMA’s proposed transformation as a model for his remarks about urban planning and architecture. These matters go to the heart of the AIA mission to provide leadership to improve the built and natural environment.  After Mr. Govan shares his remarks, we will open the floor to your questions.

Michael Govan has spent his professional career immersed in art and art museums, of both the urban and destination styles. He studied Art History at Williams College in rural western Massachusetts, where he participated in the founding of the nearby MASS Moca. Mr. Govan then went to the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, serving as Deputy Director at the Guggenheim, and working at that Museum’s branches in Venice and Bilbao as well. Mr. Govan then led the creation of another destination museum, Dia:Beacon, about 90 minutes outside New York City. He came to LACMA in 2006.

LACMA will be hosting this AIA meeting in the Board Room at LACMA’s offices. Seating in this facility is limited to 60 people, and so this event is expected to sell out early – we urge to register at your earliest convenience. Parking information will be provided to those guests registered for this event.
