Advise, Guide, and Assist Projects to Build Safe, Well, and Fast!

Mr. Bush has 27 years of experience with the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Building and Safety and has had an extensive career in the construction and development industry.   He holds a General Contractor’s License from the State of California, a Certification as a Combination Dwelling Inspector from the International Code Council (ICC), is a member of the California Building Officials (CALBO) and a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC).

As the General Manager for the Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), Mr. Bush is responsible for managing all LADBS operations which includes approximately 1,000 employees (engineers, inspectors, managers, and support staff).  He ensures that the following mission of the Department is accomplished: “Protect lives and safety of the residents and visitors of the City of Los Angeles and enhance the quality of life, housing, economic prosperity, and job creation citywide and to advise, guide, assist customers to achieve compliance with the Building, Zoning, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Disabled Access, Energy and Green codes local and State laws to Build Safe, Well and Fast”.

Mr. Bush is a “change” manager.  He cultivates ideas from staff and customers as well as his own and helps turn them into tangible improvements.  As a result, the Department has developed and implemented numerous enhancements that have greatly improved the type and quality and access to customer services and created significant LADBS operational efficiencies.  

The Department has received several Mayoral Civic Innovation Awards and awards from the Development Industry and others.  Mr. Bush has also received numerous awards and recognition from City and State and Federal elected officials, community leaders, property owner associations, Los Angeles Police Department and other city departments for his dedication to public service and for resolving community blight issues throughout the City of Los Angeles.  

Mr. Bush has extensive experience with development processes as a code enforcer, change manager, and a customer:  1) He began his City career as an inspector and promoted through the ranks to his current position as General Manager, and 2) Prior to his City service, he was a licensed General Contractor and operated his own construction company where he was involved in new construction and remodel of large and small commercial and residential projects.   

Mr. Bush and his family are actively involved in community service work.
