Accessibility Seminar: Best Practices for 2013 CBC (Part One)

This seminar examines “best practices” for accessible design under the provisions of Chapter 11B of the 2013 California Building Code (CBC). We often forget that our building standards codes establish minimum requirements. By pushing just a little bit beyond these minimums, we can create better buildings that not only provide for greater accessibility for disabled persons but also reduce legal risks for building owners related to accessibility.

At the end of the seminar, participants should be able to:
  • Understand the new format/organization of Chapter 11B of the 2013 California Building Code (CBC);
  • Recognize CBC access compliance requirements that are inherently difficult to achieve;
  • Identify some of the most common errors in design and construction of accessible elements; and
  • Implement “best practices” for the most common errors in design and construction of accessible elements.

This seminar will provide 1.5 hours of continuing education credit towards California architectural license renewal in 2015.
