AIA|LA Urban Design Committee Meeting – Green Alleys Master Plan (Trust for Public Land)

Please note the updated location. The Urban Design Committee is looking forward to a year of supporting legislative initiatives and public and private investments that improve urban design in Los Angeles.

We are pleased to announce that Allen Compton, Laura Ballock, and Sarah Curren will present their work on the Avalon Green Alley Network, which is a part of the South Los Angeles Green Alleys Master Plan, at our March 2014 meeting. Allen Compton is principal at SALT Landscape Architecture; Laura Ballock is Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land; Sarah Curren is Director of Civil Engineering at Breen Engineering.

Alley projects are hot topics in many cities and for good reason. They can create open space, manage runoff, link bike and pedestrian routes and build community. But the transformation of neglected and unsafe alleys into urban green networks embraced by the community can be a tough sell. This presentation will discuss the challenges, rewards and lessons learned through engaging diverse communities in three green alley projects.

Please join us on Wednesday, March 19th at 7pm.
