“ADDRESSING UPCOMING BALLOT INITIATIVES THAT MAY RESULT IN A BUILDING MORATORIUM IN L.A.”

Guest Speaker: Edward J. Casey - Partner, Alston & Bird LLP

Please join us at a special joint-meeting of the AIA|LA Urban Design and Political Outreach Committees, which will be on Tuesday, March 8th (6pm) at the office of Altoon Partners in Downtown LA.

The meeting will serve as a forum to learn more insight from land use attorney Edward J. Casey about the potential negative impacts of the prospective anti-housing initiative, which has been introduced by a group called “A Coalition to Preserve LA”.

The presentation will also (1) provide an update on the efforts of the coalition of business and labor interests to oppose the moratorium initiative and (2) discuss potential legal defects in the initiative.

After the presentation, we may also have the chance to debate amongst ourselves the merits of the recently announced second initiative, which has been introduced by the "Build a Better LA Coalition.” and includes such topics as prevailing wages, local hire and inclusionary zoning provisions.  Both ballot initiatives are attached below.

1) "Coalition to Preserve LA"

2) "Build a Better LA"

When: Tuesday, March 8 (6pm - 8:00pm)

Where:  Altoon Partners - 617 West Seventh Street, #400, Los Angeles, CA 90017
