This month our speakers will the ways our profession can address the problems of Mental Health care. A growing segment of our population needs treatment for mental health issues which left untreated have a ripple effect throughout the health care system. Join us as we explore the way private and public groups have responded to these needs.

PRESENTERS:

Larry Adamson, President, The Midnight Mission
Larry Adamson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Midnight Mission, the oldest continuing service Human Service Agencies in Los Angeles. In its 101st year, The Midnight is one of the premier agencies serving the homeless, poor and addictive populations. 

During his 17 year tenure at The Midnight Mission, he has been successful in growing the total asset value. In 2005, he led the corporate relocation effort of the Mission’s new 138,000 square foot facility at 6th & San Pedro in Los Angeles skid row area. The Midnight Mission provides program recovery services and housing for 276 individuals at its downtown facility and continues providing subsistence services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Currently, The Mission provides over 1,000,000 meals annually and provides emergency sleeping facilities for 150 people in its “Safe Sleep Program” each night. Additionally, The Mission operates a nationally recognized transitional family program in West Los Angeles that houses homeless families. 

In December, 2004, Larry was appointed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor to serve as Commissioner for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. Additionally; Larry serves on a number of corporate and public boards. 

Maria Marquez, Past Deputy Directory, Riverside County Dept of Mental Health
Maria Marquez recently retired from her position as Deputy Director, Housing for Riverside County Department of Mental Health. She has over 40 years experience working in mental health programs in both Orange and Riverside Counties. During her tenure she has assisted in the design of approximately 25 facilities ranging from administrative, outpatient mental health facilities, integration of primary care into mental health clinics to multiple housing initiatives for persons with mental health disabilities. She served as the Mental Health Services Act Housing Coordinator for Riverside County and assisted developers in the creation of seven affordable housing projects that created over 700 senior and multi-family housing with 105 very low income special needs housing. Maria is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
