Exhibition and Competition that Fosters Tomorrow’s Architects
Thursday, November 9 | 5:30PM - 8:30PM | The Bloc DTLA | 750 W. 7th Street, LA, CA 90017 | FREE EVENT

Thursday night, November 9, 2017, architecture students attending schools from as far as San Francisco, California, will launch an exhibition of visual concepts, of their own design, in a plaza at THE BLOC in the midst of Downtown Los Angeles.

The exhibit, is part of the American Institute of Architecture Los Angeles chapter’s (AIA|LA) influential 2x8, a three-pronged program dedicated to creating exposure for next generation architects, and to provide scholarships.

Those participating will express 2x8’s 2017 theme of “CORE” through designs that range from modular housing for refugees to a re-think of DTLA’s former Los Angeles Stock Exchange.

If you joined us at a previous 2x8 exhibition opening night, you’ve experienced the excitement and the interest in talented students from higher education institutions throughout California. (Would you like to support scholarships for participating students, again this year? Scroll down for levels that run from BFF to Share the Love.)

If you are new to 2x8, here’s some background information:

Why is 2x8 important to Los Angeles firms and what is it?
2x8 is a competition, exhibition, and scholarship fund for students at institutions of higher education throughout California.

Each participating academic program selects two projects by student teams that exemplify the exhibition theme so that it can be considered by a noteworthy panel to judge.

Winners and scholarship recipients are announced at the exhibition opening.

Committee members such as Clay Holden, AIA, who is on the AIA|LA board this year, are re-launching this influential and essential program because of its value to the field.

This year, the participating schools are:
*Art Center College of Design
*Cal Poly Pomona Architecture
*California College of the Arts
*Cal State Long Beach BFA Interior Design
*Los Angeles Institute of Architecture and Design
*Newschool of Architecture and Design
*Otis College Architecture/Landscape/Interiors
