With Los Angeles County struggling with double-digit unemployment, BizFed last week took a significant step toward aggressively working for a more business-friendly environment to spur jobs and help all of our communities thrive in this new decade.

The BizFed Board unanimously voted Tuesday 2/16/2010 to be one of a handful of key "champions" of the first comprehensive Strategic Economic Development Plan in LA County's history.

· The plan - developed through a yearlong broad, consensus-building process by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. - was formally endorsed by all five county Supervisors in late December. This week, LAEDC delivered copies of the plan to all of California's lawmakers and called on them to develop a statewide economic development plan.

· The plan involves 12 objectives and 52 strategies and identifies five core goals to ensure economic growth and success, including: an educated work force, business-friendly environment, better quality of life, smart land use and "21st century infrastructure."

· As the "champion" of the plan's "Create a Business-Friendly Environment" component and BizFed will work with all our member organizations along with full LAEDC support and collaboration over the next several years in a regional leadership role advocating, advancing and executing specific implementation goals of the plan and developing and tracking progress measurements.

Please SHARE this important news - the copy of the attached plan and YOUR individual organization sign on letter - with your executives, board and business members. If sustainable economic development is a key part of your organization's mission, over the next few months please SUPPORT this effort by signing on, using one of the attached support forms.

Thanks to LAEDC, we have a succinct, useful, compelling tool to use with your own elected officials to clearly emphasize what's at stake when they get in the way of job retention and creation.

"This is a critical time for all of our futures - and policies, processes and procedures that nurture and foster job creation are at the core of a healthy outcome," said BizFed Chair Tom Flintoft. "Now is the time for LA County and all of its cities to get it right for the next generation."
